Twist Pile
Made by tightly twisting individual carpet fibres together.

Hides vacuum marks well.

Berber/Loop
Characterised by its looped pile construction.
Made from uncut loops of carpet fibres.
Provides a texture.
With large loops can look casual and relaxed or tight loops in plain colours can look clean and organised.
Hides footprints.

Velvet
Soft and smooth to the touch with an elegant cut pile finish.
Straighter than twisted yarns, creating a velvety surface.

Types of Carpet Fibre
There are many considerations in choosing the perfect carpet fibre for your home, most carpets contain one or a combination of the following fibres.
Wool
Luxurious.
Natural and sustainable, biodegradable.
Naturally stain-resistant to certain products, the natural fibres contain oil.
Excellent insulator.
Long lasting, durability and strength.
Fire resistant.
Excellent investment.
Polypropylene
Soft and comfortable underfoot.
Difficult to stain.
Synthetic fibre.
Can be cleaned with diluted bleach, except for oil based stains.
Offers good value for money.
Choose a dense construction and avoid high pile height carpets as has poor resilience and over time may look flat.
More affordable than nylon, polyester and wool.
Not as durable as nylon and polyester and wool.
Non-allergenic.
Moth resistant.
Polyester
Soft and comfortable underfoot.
Fade resistant and difficult to stain.

We were looking for a particular carpet that had already been fitted to two rooms in our house several years ago. These had been fitted by John Lewis but were no longer available. We visited Hertford Flooring with an old John Lewis sample card. The staff went out of their way to help us, to the point where they phoned the manufacturers. Success! The excellent service continued from having an estimate to the actual fitting. We were so pleased with the result that we decided to have our staircase and landing recarpeted too. We can’t praise Hertford Flooring highly enough!
